Prioritize THIS Over SEO

You need to stop stressing so much about your website SEO.

No, seriously! I’ve met so many business owners who are spending all their time and energy on SEO but missing key aspects.

Before SEO, focus on these things:

Learn how to explain to people what you do in simple terms.

I recently spoke to a coach and I have no clue what she does. Her long-winded answer was so confusing and had too much fluff.

Keep your messaging simple and clear so even a child can understand what you do. (Check out this post for some tips on how to be clear about what you do!)

One way to do this is to write your one-liner or a response to “So what do you do and how can you help me?” in a GoogleDoc. Next, start dissecting it to see if it can be broken down more and more simply. At the end of the exercise, you should end up with just a few lines that fully envelop what you do, who you serve, and the transformation that’s offered.

Remember, to be clear is to be kind.

Have something valuable to share before prioritizing SEO.

Driving more traffic to your website is great but not when you don’t have any quality content. That’s why it’s important to have valuable content that will stick around your site longer.

This can look like having a blog section of your site, providing free mini-trainings or advice, an email opt-in, or even a super clear Q&A page.

Be honest about if you actually have an offer that people want.

So many people are launching courses, memberships, and so much more. However, they haven’t even tested to see if they have an audience that’s truly interested in their offer to begin with.

This is why so many offer creations and launches end up flopping!

Create your offers with your audience in mind – their pain points and desires. Then, in your messaging and copywriting you need to clearly portray this (clarity is key in everything!).

If you aren’t quite sure what your ideal clients truly need, try asking them! Use a poll on social media, send some direct messages or emails asking for input, or chat to those who have worked with you in the past to see what they wish they had and what they loved about working with you.

Your research WILL pay off.

If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to audit yourself and see if you need to work on your clarity and value! Then focus on SEO.
